2. I did this one out of order, because at the time I didn't have headphones to listen to the tutorial. I didn't realize at the time that you could read along but I'm glad I waited since I enjoyed listening to it. I found that the easiest for me would be Habit 1 to begin with an end in mind. And that end would be to organize my pictures on Flickr. The hardest would be Habit 4 Having confidence in myself as a competent and effective learner. It's going to be a challenge to organize my photos the way I would like using this new tool. My first thought is that I probably won't be able to figure it out. But I am going to try and if I get stuck I will use the mentor Habit and ask for help.

21. I found a site I really liked, but could not subscribe to it because I don't have the capability on my machine to get a podcast. My site was called Dogcast radio! And since I want a dog it would be a neat podcast to listen to. I may try to do it at home on my laptop to see how this works. But at least I seached and read on the podcasts. It is amazing what you can do with these sites and casts and things.
23. Well...... my thoughts are still a work in progress working toward a conclusion. I think I would really enjoy working on a lot of the exercises I did. The big problem that I had is 1. I am not very computer savvy. I can find my way around some, but there really wasn't a lot of good direction and you say to ask for help. Well, when I only had an hour off desk to work on it and needed help no one was available at that time. An hour at a time just isn't enough. I did a lot of it on my own time from home. 2. The timing of Summer REading at ABG was not a good idea at all. We are just swamped here during that time and frustrated already. It did not make for an enjoyable fun and learning time. You really need to spend some time playing and trying things. I did enjoy quite a few and hope to do more on my own time. I spend too much time at home playing Solitaire and I am going to try to get into this techno stuff a little more. It's really not my thing--I'm just plain down home----using my computer for e-mail, shopping, photos and such. I really don't use it to its full potential. Maybe this 23 Things will get me doing more. I just keep so busy with my grandchildren, who are my life, my knitting, my reading and just enjoying my whole family and home that I don't spend a lot of time "computing"!!! I do think that it was a good learning experience if not just to know what's out there. And if we come away with even one thing that we learned it was worth it. I did complain a lot, but I did enjoy it. I think my biggest problem was with time. I do enjoy the blogging and I'm gonna do one on just personal stuff and send the address to my family and friends out of town. It should be fun creating that. So, I will pursue some of the things I learned and thank you for teaching me.
.17 I added a note to a Sandbox wiki on county line dancing. There were so many topics to choose from and it was fun looking at all the entries. I don;t know who the line dancing wiki belonged to, but I wrote an entry. I think I could have fun with this one and some day when I have some time, I'd like to try to add one of my own.

22. Could not get into Overdrive or Netlibrary. Searched Project Gutenberg for an audio book and there wasn't a lot of "nowadays" titles to choose from. I finally went into Bookshelf and then to Crime Bookshelf and found Edgar Allan Poe's "Mystery of Marie Roget" and this would be a good one for me to download. I was surprised that this is a free site and that you could donate and help by using PayPal. Actually made me want to give a few dollars to help them with the great service they offer!
20. I really did not want to get into UTube because I knew I would get hooked and I really don't want to be a computer junkie. This site is fun! I chose this particular one because it shows my Ravens and the Eagles (who are my second team) in the same video. And I am a sports junkie.
I think libraries could use the various categories patrons might browse such as Communities to put a short video on about a previous or upcoming program

19. I used the Lulu site for books and the Arcaplya site for Games. The Arcaplay was a lot of fun. I was playing Bug on a Wire and having a ball. The Lulu site was just amazing. You can go on there and publish your own work. There is even a book cost calculator to tell you how much it would cost. You can search for book titles that maybe even a library wouldn't have. It's sort of like Amazon where you can purchase a title. On here they give you the price for purchase or download. If you search Literature and Fiction the keywords are very succinct. You can use keywords such as Thriller, Mystery, Suspense, Crime---there really narrow it down. The site also has searches for Music, Calendars and Videos. I really had fun looking and playing with this one.

16. I loved the Wiki's!!! I can see a lot of uses for me personally. My cousin in Indiana keeps our family tree. Wouldn't it be cool to put it in a Wiki and we can all access it and put in our additions or deletions. I am planning on talking to him about it. I went on the Book Lovers Wiki and that was my favorite. That is a great idea for a library to have where everyone can add titles and comments. It would be helpful to patrons looking for a new author to read . The ALA New Orleans is a great way to "take notes" from a meeting. It's a big job for one participant at a conference to report on what was learned and this way everyone who went to the conference could put, as they say it, their own two-cents worth. That is a great tool for library personnel and for any other company in the business world to use. So a WIKI can be just about anything that someone would like to share with others. It can be personal, business or just plain information someone thinks is interesting. A neat little tool!
15. They talk about feedback and participation and I think the libraries of today have that. It's just a difference in whether it's face to face or through a blog comment . This is a bit limited however, in the amount of information that is made available. Wikipedia scares me, because I don't know if people out there know that it is not guaranteed information. I guess, those that are computer literate will know how wikipedia works but I think kids could get the wrong idea about it. There are also a lot of people out there that are not computer people and they would much rather talk to someone about their complaints. The future of libraries is definitely changing because of the "world-wide web", but I hope it goes slowly. It's all so much technology and it gets overwhelming. I must admit , thought, that there is a lot of information out there in the world and by having the ability to give people the access to it in many different formats is amazing. It will definitely change the library's future in the information gathering end of it, but you will still need the personal touch that is provided by the staff.
14. Technorati. This was a fascinating site! You can go in by looking in the blog itself which gives you the entire blog or go to the blog posts to see different opinions and comments. When I went into Barbra Streisand as my search word I found all kinds of stuff. There was a site that was in Italian and one in Dutch and a site with Flickr where you can view photos. I was really surprised to see the sites in foreign languages and to see just how much info I could get on Barbra. I may use Technorati in future more than some of the other exercises I've tried.
13. I read into a lot of the sites on PLCMCL2 and it was very interesting. I liked the site of the Orange County Library. They had a little bit of everything on there with podcasts and tags to get different information. It was all fascinating, but I don;t think it's something that I would get use out of. Nice to know that it is there for the using, though.

12. Well this site made no sense to me. It took forever to get it to my blog. I did not understand the directions-kinda knew what I wanted to do, but........ There was not a lot of information on the 2.0 site and I only have an hour here at work to do it and there was no one available to ask any questions.

Library Things
11. I like having a library of my favorite books. I keep certain authors names in a folder so I can recommend them to patrons or friends. This way I can keep the titles right in my blog and I can just make it available to them if I want.

Merlin
Well, I went into Merlin and with a lot of hard work and yelling I now have a Merlin account. After further searching through it I think this will be an interesting site to visit. There was a post about the 23 Things on there and I briefly looked at a few others. These usernames, passwords, email addresses are starting to mount up and it's getting confusing. I try to keep the same e-mail and password AND write it down, but setting up this account was especially frustrating since when I first tried it only asker for a username and e-mail. Then when I went to try to get on it asked for a password and the one I always use was not valid???!!!???
Bloglines Account
8. Today I created my Bloglines account. I chose Yarn Harlot, Wendy Knits and Reuters Top News. I wanted a weather one, but didn't see it listed and wasn't sure how to find it. I ran out of time at work also. I'll probably try to do it at home.

7. Don't know if this is what you want, but I was watching NASCAR this past Saturday night and they have the electronic finish line which they didn't have years ago. This past race was either the closest or next to closest they've ever had and it was amazing to see how close those two cars were to the finish line. Without this technology you may not have been able to determine who actually won the race. Or at least you would have had one driver mad thinking that he was the winner.

5. Now this I did have fun with. After I figured out what the heck to do. I did this at home and was very pleased with myself that I did it. I put three pictures of my wonderful grandchildren on with a comment under each of them. I talked to some others that did it differently than I did. I amazingly figured out how to have my pictures file up and the Flicker site and just dragged the pix I wanted from my pix file. Now I want to do that with all my pictures, because I understand that the pix on Flicker are backedup and if my hard drive should fail I won't lose all my precious photos since they are saved on Flicker.
3. I have set up my Blog and am the Raven Lady, naturally because of my beloved Ravens. I set this blog up at the demonstration table and it was very easy. I feel comfortable adding posts and editing them. When I have some extra time I would like to set up a blog to put out there to generate some interest and some help in trying to keep the Ladies LPGA golf tournament in Bulle Rock after our contract ends in 2 years.
1. When I heard about the upcoming Technology Fair, my first thought was "uh uh"! I really didn't think I wanted to learn all those "new fangled things". But after the introduction by Maurice and Annette I started to get intrigued. I liked the idea of blogging and the use of Flicker for my photos. So I decided to try this new technology and see what it really can do.

LPGA
The McDonald's LPGA Golf Tournament was held at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland the first week of June, 2007. It was a wonderful and exciting event. The tournament moved here from 18 yrs in Wilmington, Del. This was the 3rd year of a 5 yr contract. It may be in jeopardy of staying here due to the lower amount of money raised for the Ronald McDonald House charity. The bulk of the money raised for the players winnings and the charity come from corporate donations. Last year they received money from the State of Maryland. New governor....no money from the State. This tournament brings a lot of dollars to our economy and we really need to keep it here. Spread the word!
